Scanning

I know that the forums are mostly to discuss problems and complaints and bugs and features requests, but...

.... I just want to say how GREAT and EXCELLENT and OUTSTANDING XnView's scanning interface is. I've used many different imaging programs for scanning over the years, most recently Picasa and Photoshop Elements and PaperPort, and the way XnView handles the TWAIN interface and scans is better than all the others that I know of. I don't know if this was done deliberately or by accident, but XnView receives the results of a scan and leaves the scanning dialog available, while the other programs require that you first close the scanning dialog before the image is received/displayed by the image program. This means that scanning with XnView requires several fewer steps on every scan, and there is much greater control and flexibility. Plus, not forcing a disk write of the scanned image saves the user more time and effort if cropping or other basic editing functions are required before saving.

Nice job, Pierre! I know it hasn't changed in years, but it works really well and is just right the way it is.

And any of you readers who are using some other program for scanning, be sure to try XnView's "File...Acquire..." function to see if it might work better for you than whatever you're currently using.

You're welcome. But some recent TWAIN drivers don't allow it anymore
