UAC, Admin rights & file associations

hello
It seems I specifically need to start up xnview by its shortcut or executable & select "run as administrator" so that I can change file associations
is that normal behavior ? (If I don't do that, file association changes fail silently ...)

I'm asking because, I saw some applications which readily pop up a UAC confirmation on the fly when doing such tasks.

It's not really an issue, I'm just wondering whether or not I did something wrong while installing it.
thanks.

Yes, the only way to change file association is to start as admin
