Some thumbnails have the IPTC icon over them, although the files they match don't contain any IPTC metadata.
Sample
XnView 1.80 <x>

Yes, strange. There is a IPTC value in this picture, but without any value.

Oh ok. I've got several pics like that. Maybe they used a buggy software (Photoshop?) that didn't properly add/remove IPTC

Looks as if the problem is not on XnView's side. Closed.

Sorry it only happens with XnView. The IPTC icon should not be displayed if there's no/empty value. Now you see the IPTC icon yet the properties window is empty, which is wrong IMO.

On the other hand: that way you can't easily find out if there ARE empty values that can be removed.
A fault---

Hello !
- I guess you are quite right : XvView is faulty in the case.
- I tested your sample with Total Commander + the SG_Viewer plugin: not any IPTC feature is shown; only the
EXIF information is visible.
- Hence, whether a good but modest plugin is able to check an IPTC marker, then prevents to display a fancy empty page, I guess that XnView
must do the same

- It's quite annoying to open the Info page to watch a blank list; it's a time wasting.

Kind regards,
Claude

Yes, however this a little more complicated. Actually there
is an IPTC value, but XnView is not able to read it.
I've just installed an
extension for Firefox that can view jpeg's metadata, here's what it shows for the above
sample:

So, in the wait for Pierre to tweak the IPTC detection code (which may not happen until a future version), there are 2 choices:
1. The icon stays, in order to indicates that an IPTC was detected
2. The icon is removed, because the value hasn't been read

…
3. XnView displays a blurred (grey) or
red IPTC icon to show that an IPTC metadatum exists, but is not supported (yet)
- Temporarily, of course… Must be fixed up in a next major version.

Hmm now I believe Pierre was 100% right. There is an entry but no value - empty field. XnView can't read these entries, in my opinion it's useless to have an icon over the thumbnail in this case, since the properties' IPTC tab will always be blank.
