MP 0.32 Win: Importing IPTC keywords

In the settings I have checked to import IPTC keywords to DB categories. But it seems not to work. Or do I have to trigger it in some way?

I can't reproduce. Could you post a picture file used?

Here is an example. This file has the IPTC keywords "Nature" and "Test" set. The IPTC tab in XnView MP confirms this. I would now expect that the corresponding categories in the categories tab will be checked (and possibly created). But nothing happens. If I set an category in the tab it is written to the IPTC keywords though. But the already existing keywords will be deleted.
Along the way one additional request: it would be nice that the categories are written only to IPTC and not XMP, if I have selected to use only IPTC and not XMP.

It worked after I have deleted the old DB. There should be a possibility to reimport the keywords after a change, e.g. in another application.
There is an inconsistency: one IPTC category is set, I open the image in XnViewMP, the keyword is imported into the category, I set another category, now there are both categories set, but only the new IPTC keyword.
If I display the IPTC keywords under the thumbs they are no updates after a change, also the yellow icon in the upper left corner of each thumb does not display until I re-enter the directory.
I do not really like that new categories are created as a subcategory of "Other" and not at the root level.

Right, if the file don't change filesize or filedate, import can't be made (file is not changed for XnViewMP)
So something like 'Synchronise file with DB'?

Do you use 'export into XMP/IPTC' setting?

Really, you would like all your categories as root?? So perhaps as option....

Yes, both, import and export, are set.

This two things would be nice.

Yes, both, import and export, are set.
So XMP is not updated, right? Could you send me a file to test?

I try to describe the problem again:
Take the file from my above post. It contains the IPTC keywords "Nature" and "Test" and no XMP information. Open it in XnViewMP. The IPTC keywords are imported into the DB categories. Now set an additional category e.g. "Green". Now this image has three categories set in the DB. But if you look at the IPTC keywords only the new one ("Green") is set, the two old ones ("Nature", "Test") are lost. XMP information is also created and contains only the new XMP subject "Green", the two others are missing.
Independent of this problem: I do not want to use XMP. On the IPTC/XMP options tab I have selected to use only IPTC. Normally this works, but the category export does nevertheless create XMP information.

Oh right, there is a problem. XnViewMP import IPTC keywords into database, you click on a new category (with XMP only setting), so XnViewMP will update only XMP... (for speed, XnViewMP will write only changes)
So what is the best:
* re-read all categories and update correctly XMP
* no IPTC keywords import if 'XMP only'
Independent of this problem: I do not want to use XMP. On the IPTC/XMP options tab I have selected to use only IPTC. Normally this works, but the category export does nevertheless create XMP information.
If you use category pane, XMP will be always written...

I think you did not understand where I see the problem. I have no XMP only setting, I have set IPTC only. If I select a new category both information are written, IPTC is changed and XMP created. But in both, IPTC and XMP, you will find only the new category/keyword/subject, the old ones are lost. If XnViewMP would write into the file those categories, which are set in the DB, there would be no problem.

Yes, and that what I don't like. I would move the mode setting, which you can find in the IPTC/XMP options tab into the global settings window and then apply this setting also to importing and exporting categories.

I'll add an option...
