I made small 80 x 15 buttons for XnView.
I got some free time, and what I do? Logos for XnView.

These are completely free for any use.

Umm... what's the difference between images 4 and 8, 5 and 9, 2 and 6, and 3 and 7? Each image in the pairs I just listed is the same color and has the same text.

btw I ran one of those pics through PNGout, and got it down to 565 bytes. That's just over half the original size. While 550 bytes isn't much, it can add up. Over a period of 1,000 views, that would be over half a meg of bandwidth saved. Over 10,000 views, that would be 5 megs of bandwidth. Pretty significant ammount for such a little pic, ain't it?

Some might be 24-bit and some 32-bit (alpha blending)
You would only notice the difference on Windows XP.

Nope, nothing to do with alpha channels. I figured it out, the first image in each pair has a black line between the logo and text, the second image in each pair doesn't.

I decreased the colors to 16 (no visible difference), and ran the pics through PNGout. The results are each about 320 bytes (the originals are around 1,160 bytes).

If the pics get used as much as you hope they will, that will add up to serious bandwidth savings.

Thats it you got it. I am perfectionist and now when I look those again those without black line looks the worst. Yesterday they looked better than logos with line.

I can't see them right now (damn free image hosting), but you are right I forgot optimizing them.
I updated them 16 colors and size ~320 bytes (I am still trying to find one really good comand-line program to make some optimizing)

Damn I was sure that I was logged. So just to make sure, I was that Guest poster above this post. Oh well.

Right after I posted, logos in Drahken post come visible an they are couple bytes smaller so helmut upload them to the server.

I've just put your banners above (Drahken's verison) on the download server in directory "banners" (almost exactly 5 months after your last post

Having the banners in various colours is good, I think. But I wonder whether we could decide to use just 1-2 styles, only (as you can see above we currently have 4 per colour).

To be honest banners are pretty new to me and I guess that same applies for Pierre. I didn't even know about standard sizes...

More or less standard banner sizes http://www.webpencil.com/bannersizes.htm probably the most used banner is 468x60 (XnView should have one or twelve too

). The 15x80 isn't listed there, but 15x80 buttons are highly popular because they don't ruin your website layout and make it look like advertisement.

I think these are better than than the old white buttons. Could you replace them with these?

These are the ones what I would like to keep.

But I think we can leave out the other text version as well.

So which one is better? XnView or Get XnView.

Nothing but XnView don't tell much about the product, Get XnView tells that it's program. I mean when I see a button where reads Get something I instantly think it is a program and not a website or name of company.

I personally like more the look of XnView, but I also think that the Get XnView is more reasonable choice....

Hmm... Why I know all this stuff... I am so vain...

Thank you very much for your effort, XnTriq. The HTML looks scaring, so I did not have a look at the "XnView banner page" until just recently. Those who want to have a quick impression can directly view XnTriq's above suggestion for an XnView ads&banner page.

I really like the page and the idea and if Pierre also indicates interest, we should try to create some more banners and fill the page. Perhaps Pierre will have to take some money in his hands...

ckv and XnTriq - definetely the coolest geeks in this forum. ckv, your avatar needs sunglasses.
