So i have Canon 500D with 4752x3168 and it takes ages for my laptop to open them. Its c2d 1600mhz. Though picasa opens them really fast, they are blurried at first but then its ok. And it is ok while xnview still opens image. Its really impossible to quickly look thought images. I can do it when they are 1600x1200 but not when they are 15mp. May be there is a possibility to make some quick algorithm for it.

Raw image or other? For raw images, there is an option to view by embedded preview or half-size.
Options... View>{Misc}>Camera Raw [_Embedded Thumbnail_]
Options... Browser>Preview>Camera Raw [_Embedded Thumbnail_]

A 2-pass display can be seen in browser's fullscreen (highlight file + F11).
Options... View>Fullscreen>[x]Use delayed high quality

Optimizing image may show a marginal improvement (jpeg) ?
Menu... Edit>Clean... >[x]Optimize (Huffman Table)

That really helped my with raw files, thank you very much, now that open and turn next/prev like comet :)

But jpegs are still like turtle...

Set it to 1600, no luck.

Didn't understand this:

And here you mean edit my jpegs? Not acceptable :(

That is to use the delayed high quality setting (a larger image appears in lower quality at first). The viewer (editor) and browser (preview) display and navigate images in a different manner, so how image is launched determines whether effect is seen. Pressing <F11> in browser makes sure one is not using editor. In development version v.0.35, these distinctions disappear and the image views are one and the same. Which XnView modes are faster, Browser preview vs. Viewer vs. Beta? I'm not sure this has been compared in forum yet.

It can be tried on copies. More info here.
A better test would be to convert to png (unlike jpeg, a lossless format) to see if it decodes quicker.
