resizing issue in win7

Post by bolvo »

Let me start of by saying that I have been a longtime user of this very excellent tool. I have always been a fan and recommanded it to many of my friends who for some reason take me for a computer expert (I am 'that guy' in my family ;))

Recently I purchased a new Win7 64-bit system and I am running into issues with it.
When I try to resize a picture the quality gets degraded notably, this was never before an issue on other PC's I have worked on.

As an example I have resized the picture on http://www.visitingdc.com/images/eiffel ... icture.jpg using both XNView and Photoshop.
You can clearly see the difference.

Is this a known issue?

I am using v1.97.8

regards,

b.

sorry, I did not realize there were options...
I never changed anything I think. the standard values where always good enough for me.
When pressing shift+s, I can see the following options:
- keep ratio (activated)
- keep document size (deactivated)
- Rendering (activated): closest value

is this what you meant?

I think rendering is the same as resampling, no? (I do not work with the English version, I translated, but I found it on the picture on http://www.rideau-info.com/photos/changedpi.html)
It is set to 'closest value'

Hello,
I would like to have (if it's possible) into XnView/MP a kind of similar powerful resize method like "Liquid Rescale" (plugin for Gimp)
It would be perfect... :)
see the video here:
http://liquidrescale.wikidot.com/en:examples
A sample:

'Nearest neighbour'?

I just found out how to change the language settings: it is 'nearest neighbour'.
