RC4: Truncated file name in Folder Tab

:) Hello !

• It seems that the widths of the file-tabs have been limited with so long names in RC4, hence I get for instance :
image_with_a _long… instead
image_with_a_long_name.jpg
- Indeed, it's a feature, but a bit annoying :(

- Is it possible to restore the full normal auto-adjustment of the tab-lenght ?

 Kind regards,

Hm - not sure on this one. It's surely bad if filename is truncated. But it's also bad if you have a very wide tab. Perhaps increasing the maximum length a bit is sufficient. E.g. 60 characters should do for most cases.

Or always expand all tabs across the whole length of the tab bar, and the more tabs are displayed simultaneously the smaller they become.

lol I believe you mistyped 60, cause it may be a bit too wide (current width allows for 16 chars only).

Wanted to be on the safe side. 60 characters might be a bit too safe. ;-)

One tab

:) Hello !

- When I browse a dir in "View" with any Next / Previous file command, I get ONE tab only on the tab-header, so that doesn't matter if the tab is very wide !

- This is the right sense of my request…

Right. But some people might use XnView in a different way.

Option---

8) Most certainly, but why not (an) option(s) ? There are two lines only in the "Tab" configuration-page…

Clo,

you can disable "Folder tabs" if you have just 1 or 2 tabs...

I don't wish

- I don't wish to disable the tabs, I just want to get an option to define the caption-lenght as n… characters; this exists in Total Commander, plus the choice of several ranks if needed, close the tab by a 2-click and so on…

- It's a logical option, as soon as you have tabs in a program, while the “auto-size” is disabled by hard-coding…

Let's first see whether a general solution for most/all people can be found. If not, let's talk about options, then.

Currently, the 16 characters are far too few. What about having a limit of let's say 50 characters? Wouldn't that be sufficient for most people?
For handling very long file names, there could be a tooltip which is shown when moving the mouse onto the folder tab.

This was a bit too quick decision, Pierre. Moved back to New/Open.

Plz., let solve definitely !

:) Hello !
- To increase the tab-caption up to fifty characters is a "lasy" temporary workaround which'll not solve this issue definitely !
• Soon or later, a (a lot of) user(s) will request another amount of characters (more or less), hence an option is better already, anyway.

• This is not a big deal, it doesn't need a ton of codes. On the screen, we could have an option-box like :

       Image

- Of course, it must be postponed to a (close) next version…
{ Note : the hotkeys here are a X-Mas wish still… }

• Pierre, please add this on your "To Do" list…

To Pierre and alter,

I fully support the Claude's suggestion and think it's the best way to solve this problem.
So I insist, Pierre, please add this on your "To Do" list…
