General problems with Video files

Apart from routine file management, as I would normally use Windows Explorer for, my main use of VnView is the handling of Image files (to & from Photoshop, etc) and handling Video files. The video files are created because I do a lot of testing using the very flexible Audio/Video converter: "MediaCoder".

However, XnView often hangs up and has numerour problems with video, probably related to the Preview.
Even with Auto play Audio/Video turned off, any attempt to select a video file (L or R-click) has a delay as Preview looks at (decodes?) the file.
This is a pest when wishing to either R-click to use MediaInfo or Rename or L-click to simply move it elsewhere.
Sometimes it just hangs up or issues an error (see: http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=22827).
Also, if the files are acceptable to XnView, I need two mouse clicks for each file when checking them -- one to select the file and the second to play it.

Sometimes I use the Thumbnail view in the hope that if one is generated, I can play the file safely. But no.
Whereas, MOV files tend to have a white (no) Thumbnail and cause XnView to hang up if played, yet, some MP4 files play but have no Thumbnails.

May I suggest, Pierre, that you
(1) arrange for Preview to auto-abort Play, after say 1-2 sec, if decoding fails, rather than causing a hang-up ?!! Maybe it can then add a message overlayed on the Preview image: "Cannot decode" ? or
(2) have an Option to turn OFF the Preview for Video files.

Until then, I must revert to Explorer and Drag.Drop audio & Video files to KMplayer.

I have just found a (temporary?) Workaround since I don't want to revert to Explorer.

What I did was:
(1) under Options > Preview > Auto Play for Audio/Video -- unchecked.
Then when I selest a video that may otherwise cause a hang up, no play starts and no hang up.
If, instead, Options > View > Misc > Play Movie was unchecked, it would allow a one-click play of audio. But, this doesn't work -- one click still plays video.
and
(2) Options > Keyboard > Open action (Browser) > Video files = "Open in associated program".
A D-click opens in KMplayer and I can use its Next/Previous buttons to move through the folder.

This still allows image files to preview with one click. Audio still needs two.
To save these changes, of course, I need to close then re-open XnView (a crash would lose the changes).
