MP 0.38: View does not close when pressing Esc

XnView MP 0.38 on Windows XP:
When pressing 'Esc' key, the current view is not closed always. To reproduce:
1. Start XnView
2. Open an image using double-click on the thumbnail.
3. Close the image by pressing 'Esc' key.
4. Open the same image using double-click on the thumbnail
5. Close the image by pressing 'Esc' key.
--> Image view does not close when pressing 'Esc' once.
6. Press 'Esc' key, again
--> Image view is closed.
