XnView Software

My T2i can capture in "L+RAW" mode which creates a JPG and a RAW file as well. I do this because later, when I learn how to use RAW tools, I may wish to improve some of my shots.

My problem is that some of my pictures are ordinary, and I have no need to keep the RAW file (it's very big), the JPG is just fine. However, when I browse to see which RAW files to delete, when I select the RAW file and press the delete key, XnView tries to delete the JPG that I want to keep, as well!

(I had a similar problem when I wanted to move all the RAW files to separate them from the JPGs. XnView dragged the JPGs with them, even though they weren't selected.)

I've read the help about "companion files" but it doesn't help. How do I stop XnView deleting or moving the files I don't want it to? I've read the FAQ and the first couple of pages of forum posts, but nothing.

Have you tried: Options... General>{File Operations}>[ ]For Copy/Move/Delete use file (.xmp/.thm/.jpg)?

I have a policy of not updating programs that are working, and it usually works well, while other people are scratching their heads trying to work out which update caused a problem with something that "was working yesterday" - but I admit that once in a while I get stung the other way with a bug that's fixed in a later release.

In my defence, I looked at the section on "companion files" in the help, and there was NO MENTION of that option even existing. Also, there's no sense of Why a JPG would be considered a companion file - it's not a script that modifies a RAW, it's a photo in its own right. It would be perfectly normal, even if you did do RAW post-processing, to export the final result as a JPG and delete your work files (the RAW and its companion files). Automatically deleting your final output file at this point is illogical, Mr Spock.
