How to force XNview to NOT load DDS extensions???

I posted a message in bug report section and probably made a post infraction there for also asking for help on this here.
SO here is a short summary of what is going on and I'm asking anyone that knows how to fix to post.
XNView 1.98.2
Windows 7 64bit.
Xnview runs in user mode. Never had a problem with it for years....
XNview crashes when trying to load certain .DDS files when in browser mode. It appears to do so when attempting to
create thumbnails of said files.
User wants to force XNview to not even try to look at DDS files, can not find a way to do so... details follow.
In this case the DDS files are those found in a game, Fallout New Vegas and are used by modders or those loading mods.
In this case it has been determined not all folders that contain such files cause a instant crash with XNview. Online some folders do, and it is unknown by me what the difference is between the DDS files that cause the issue and those that do not.
I don't' really care if I see in Xnview browser these DDS files.
I was attempting to view JPG's in the same directory when I discovered this issue/bug.
So I attempted to FORCE xnview to NOT load DDS files in browser mode by going into XNView options to disable
any association with DDS files.
I could find no such listing in XNview Association listing so I did the next best thing and 'guessed' so I disabled
most everything that was checked except essentials to me, JPG, BMP , GIF, Targa and little else. Some of the 'esoteric' sounding
BMP"s types I never recall seeing before I also disabled.
When this did not work I also went into XNView options to disable loading of Embedded Thumbnail and I also went into Browser
/Filelist to disable all check marks in 'All Other Files' and 'Custom Files' as well as 'Archives'
XNview still loads thumbnails of DDS files or tries to and still crashes on the folders with the odd DDS files.
I am at my wits end. Why is this program even seeing DDS if I don't even have a association in the options that mention *.dds??
How to I force XnView to not see DDS nor even attempt to load them in the browser?
Most odd. I'm no security expert but this seems a bad bug that could exploited since it causes a immediate crash.
