Thanks for fixing that contradiction in thumbnail options!
Now it's only possible to choose high quality
OR embedded thumbnails.
Good, but…

Hello !
- Yes, that's great !
- However, the handling to tick the wanted box in the two ones is a bit odd !
This should need rather a couple of radio-buttons instead (
Exclusive OR)
:D Pierre, please ?

Kind regards,
Claude

Clo, I've suggested exactly that.

Both or not ?

Well, but it is not quite clear for me, since :
-
Either both options can be chosen, so both actual boxes could be ticked ( with an automatic priority for let's say “High quality”, for example),
or they can
not for technical reasons, so the radio-buttons are needed…
- Currently, when you tick a box, the other is blurred automatically; that's the behaviour of radio-buttons normally…

I've took a further look on it ...
... and must admit, that there's more functionality as with a couple of OptionBoxes, IMO.
1) high quality checked -> high quality
2) embedded checked -> embedded
3) none checked -> normal quality
Last point wouldn't be possible with an OptionBox

I don't see why 'use embedded' and 'high quality' exclude each other. If there is no embedded thumbnail in a file it should still be able to choose if XnView shall create high or low quality thumbnails.

- Yes, that excludes each other. Embeddded thumbnails can't be high quality. Even more, they can't be normal quality too.
- If there's no embedded thumbnail, decide between 1) or 3)
1) high quality checked -> high quality
2) embedded checked -> embedded
3) none checked -> normal quality

Yes? I took issue with you. I said they do NOT exclude each other. Of course, embedded thumbnails have fixed quality. But every other thumbnail which has been created by XnView itself can have either high or normal quality. So there's no point in disabling the quality option if embedded thumbs have been activated since other thumbs are still being created.

I agree with Danny. At the moment, you cannot use both embedded thumbs for images that have them and high-quality thumbs for images that don't have embedded thumbs.
1. Pierre, is it feasible to use high-quality for embedded thumbs?
How large are the embedded thumbs?
In case they were 256*192 and XnView is set to display 128*96 thumbs, would antialiasing show an advantage?
2. I suggest making both checkboxes checkable again and renaming "Use Embedded thumbnail" to "Use embedded thumbnail when available".

Greying out the checkbox was indeed a bad idea

I like that a lot.

^ Yes make both checkable. I want embedded *and* high quality, like in the previous RCs.
