Thanks Again for a truly wonderful and powerful FREE graphic program.
Here are some suggestions:
A CTRL-Shift-A command to select only image files when in the browser window (Compupic has this feature and it's very handy)
I am using version 1.95 (October 2008) downloaded it from your site a few months ago. It has one very annoying bug. When I save a NEF image to jpeg, the filenaming process is flawed. I hope I will not see it in this latest version. This will be the first time that I will update since October. Is there an update file only?
A command to close all tabs would be extremely useful.
How about supporting a Nikon NEF format?

Welcome to the forum, johnny
Updating XnView to the latest version (
v1.98.5) is always recommended.
- Disable the Use XnView Shell Extension setting in Tools » Options... » System integration » Integration.
- Quit XnView and restart Windows.
- Delete all sub-directories in XnView's program folder except \XnView\cache\:
- \XnView\8bf\
- \XnView\AddOn\
- \XnView\Filters\
- \XnView\language\
- \XnView\Lut\
- \XnView\Plugins\
- \XnView\ShellEx\
- \XnView\skins\
- \XnView\WebTemplate\
- Download XnView-win-full.zip and extract the archive to a temporary folder.
- Move all sub-directories and files in \temporary\XnView-win-full\XnView\ to the program folder of XnView v1.95 and confirm all file overwrite messages.

Thanks for the info. But I had installed the new version over the older version in Windows XP. It appears to be functioning normally.
In regards to the close all tabs command. I didn't see the right mouse button command that contains that function. Ooops! I must be blind
Actually, I am legally blind and was wondering if you could include an enlarge font size option for the Exif information when it is displayed in the Full screen mode. Also, can you include an option for a choice to diaplay it in any corner of the screen and if it can display that info when not in the full screen mode , as in the editor window? Thank so much.

OK. Just keep in mind that XnView's shell extension (
\XnView\ShellEx\XnViewShellExt.dll) can't be updated that way, because the DLL is in use and Windows won't allow it to be overwritten.

The
Ctrl-Shift-A shortcut hasn't been assigned to any command in XnView (see “
All Current Hotkeys / Shortcuts”).
Feel free to add your suggestion to the “
Hotkeys / Shortcuts Requests” topic.

- Tools » Options... » View » Fullscreen
- » Fullscreen » Show information » Text settings...
- » Text settings » Font » Choose...
There you can also change the
Background colour for higher contrast as well as the
Position.
The display of the info text can be turned off & on with
View »
Show information (Hotkey:
I) in both normal and fullscreen view.

Could you describe this issue in more detail?
Please note: I'm not the developer of XnView

That would be
Pierre.

The file naming problem that I was having was probably related to incorrect way that I had updated it. Which resulted in not updating the shell extension dll file.

Happy holidays to you too

It takes some time to get familiar with all the options for customizing XnView.
I actually found out a few things that were new to me while looking for an answers to your questions.
johnnybad wrote:Will I lose my current settings when I update XNview?
If you follow the
instructions in my previous post, you won't.
The settings for XnView's shell extension are stored in the registry:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\XnView\ShellEx\
These are the files that hold XnView's configuration:
- xnwiew.ini (main settings)
- XnView.db (thumbnail cache and database for ratings + color labels + tags)
- category.db (database for categories) &
category.bak (backup of category.db)
- iptc.def (IPTC Keywords)
- default.bar (default toolbars)
- foo.bar (customized toolbars)
- bookmark.ini (favorites)
- XPaint.ini (Paint add-on)
- XFlash.ini (Flash export add-on)
- XPNGout.ini (PNGout export add-on)
The location of these files depends on your preferences:
- Info » About... » INI file location
- Tools » Options... » System integration » Integration
- Save options
- as INI in folder: [ User | XnView | Windows ]
- in registry
- Folder used for other files: [ User | XnView | Custom ]
johnnybad wrote:Is there a command to expand all folders?

No. What you do have is
View »
Show files in subfolders. (In the context menu of the directory tree this command is called
Show all files (recursive).) But that's probably not what you're trying to achieve.
