UI: Tab 'Input': Header row for sorting

Currently, the tab 'Input' looks like this:

The header row with "Name", "Info", ... can be used for quickly changing the sort order of the file list. The header row would make much sense if the user could switch the view style from thumbnail view to details view, but from what I can see the user cannot change this. (Is there a reason why?)

Here's a draft with header row replaced by "Sort by" drop down list underneath the file list:

Yes I want a 'Sort by' and 'View' (display) too.

According to Pierre this seems currently not possible (I think due to the way he has coded the 'Input' display).

Here is my mock-up for consideration, which improves upon yours Helmut :) :

Why adding a sort list? The sort header is like explorer in 7

Ooops :P I completely forgot about the sort headers that already exist, apologies.

I'm not familiar with Windows 7, but for all I know the sort header is only shown in view "Details". In all other views (Thumbnails, ...), there is no sort header. This makes sense, since the sort header is the header of columns, and columsn are shown in details view, only.

Since XnView displays/uses thumbnail view, only, there shouldn't be a header for sorting. Instead, there should be a drop downlist.

Hmm... I think that the sort headers for thumbnails on Windows builds should be kept

Even still for Win XP users (likie yourself Helmut) sort headers in this instance should still be kept, as it's a Windows visual function found in versions later than XP and therefore part of the Windows 'core'. Developers work forward not backward with versions of an OS platform.

I think the sort header should NOT be kept: The sort header makes only sense, if you have columns. And columns are only shown in detail view. As written above, Windows 7 displays a sort headers for detail view, only, and hides the sort header for all other views including thumbnail view. Currently, in XnView we have thumbnail view, only, no way to switch to other views. So why should XnView have a sort header in thumbnail view?

Right, yes you are correct and I did some Win 7 Explorer checks - so now I think this was another Windows Vista OS 'mistake' :P
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=23807 - So it was at the time when this feature existed in Vista but no longer exists in Win 7.

...Hmm but also look at this below screenshot I just made (My Opera browser's 'Open' in PixHost.org on Windows 7):

Still please blame Windows Vista, not me, for this confusion

Yes, looks like a Vista UI thing which had been changed in Windows 7.

Your above sample conforms to what I wrote above: Header make only sense if there are columns. In your above screenshot there are columns, first column happens to be a column with a thumbnail. So this is just a variation of the detail view.

I've heard of various problems in Vista, but didn't know that there are also UI glitches.
