XnView Software

Sorry to say this. I think xnviewmp has great potential.
But currently it is impossible to work with.

Most annoying:

1. After deletion of a file, it takes MINUTES until xnviewmp responds to new requests again
2. Although all flv files have been thumbnailed and displayed on computer A, after connecting the media device to computer B the thumbnailing starts again. All thumbnails are lost and it starts adding it one by one to the browser while the database remains untouched. Fromt he timestamp I can see that no new files get added to the database. So it is only an issue regarding fetching the files from database.

This way it is impossible to work with the files and it is impossible to switch workplaces and connect media device to different computers.

The thumbnail creation works? How many files do you have?

Yes.

And still there is this annoying issue that once you select a file it starts loading it into memory, no matter if it has been thumbnailed already or not. This seems to be some kind of preloading feature but it is useless and annoying as it prevents quick access to files.

For the time being I went back to 0.39 which have other issues but it is more possible to work fluidly without always waiting for the application to do something.
However the annoying preloading is present there as well. And it is annoying like hell if it is a large flv file and it takes20 seconds before the application responds to input again.

Yes.

To understand, you store on an external drive the database with your files, right? The drive letter is the same on the 2 computers? Thumbnailing restart only for flv? or all files?
Could you send me a sample?

Sorry but i don't understand, if you click on a file, you want to load it in the preview...

You have problem only with flv?

I'd like to confirm I also had massive lag in a directory with 2 images and a couple of other files.
(I was running in wine on ubuntu - i know..) But here is the thing it only does it when starting the exe. Not when opening from an image.
But I had to force close the app was stuck in fullscreen and Esc did nothing.
Which is wrong cos Esc exits as normal now, so it must have been some sort of lag. I killed the app. it was over a minute.

What other files?
No problem with XnView 1.98?

just the xnviewmp directory as other things as well as jpg and png now. It gives an ivalid file type error (i didn't see before) and hangs.
no problem opening the images there with right click and open with xnviewmp.
and no problem from the start menu running empty xnviewmp.
Probably not worth chasing..

And if you disable thumbnails for folder?

Drive letter is the same on all computers. The thumbnails have been created and preview on computer A. After connecting it to computer B no more tumbnails were there. Instead it started to add them from the database to the browser one by one slowly.

It is loading a preview? I don´t use the preview. I want to select the file and immediately use ALT+1 to start the file with my favorite player. No need for preview as I have the thumbnail.

The dalay is there with 0.39 as well. But in 0.48 there is additional delay when deleting files.

The delay when playing a file is the same with 0.39 or 0.48. But 0.48 is unresponsive during additional file operations. It has been mentioned here already: http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.p ... 19#p102519

Has this issue been resolved in 0.50? In 0.50 there is still some kind of preloading/prefetching when selecting a file even when if the preview is not in use.
This makes xnviemp unresponsive when it is a large file for 20+ seconds. This is extremely annoying.

So you don't need preview and information? You use only thumbnails & folder view?

Correct. Auto start of files does not make sense when the preview pane is not in use.
