Optimizing Cache Thumbnails

Good morning. My Thumbnails Cache has reached very high: about 800 MB. When I run the "Optimize Cache Thumbnails", regularly in the title bar of the Options window appears the words "not responding". Nevertheless, the optimization process is carried out regularly, but in a very long time: about 30 minutes. In these 30 minutes the Windows blue circle keeps spinning. I ask you:
1) because they appear the words "not responding"?
2) you can reduce the time of the optimization process?
Use XnView 1.98 - Windows 7 - CPU 2.33 GHz - RAM 8 GB
Thanks

Yes, if your db is very big, the optimizing process can be very very long :( (all files are checked)

Well, you can delete individual cached folders, or all cached folders, but deleting all of them takes a while (not sure if it's quicker than optimizing or not). There's also the option of turning off caching completely.

why not delete cached files if you delete the ACTUAL file/folder?
I also do most renames in XnView, it should RENAME in cache instead of re-reading 200 RAW files.
These are very simple things to keep the cache fresh and fast.
A MOVE in XnView can easily re-path the cached thumb too.
