XnView Software

Hello:

I am conducting a number of surveys, using Google Document (survey) online software. I do a PrtScr copy of an online summary (.html) on the survey responses (a number of bar diagrams and pie diagrams).

Then, I go to my clipboard program (ClipCache), but it only allows a save of the clip as .html or Unicode text.

So, I assume I need a converter. Does XnView provide a tool for such a conversion? If not, any tip on what I should use?

HTML can't be converted to JPG, nor any other image format, it's a completely different beast.
Firstly, what browser are you using? Either your browser or that clipcache program is being very very weird, the prntscrn button should save an image of your computer screen, not the HTML of the webpage.

As far as doing what you want done: Forego the clipboard program completely. At best, it's redundant in this situation. Go to the page you want a pic of, hit the prntscrn button, then go to xnview & hit SHIFT+CTRL+V, that should import your screenshot into xnview, then just save it as whatever image format you want. (PNG would be better than JPG for screenshots of webpages & charts, but if it has to be JPG for whatever reason, then go ahead & use JPG.)

If that doesn't work properly, or if you want to do multiple captures without switching back & forth to xnview, then do the following: Open xnview, go tools->capture screen Choose "window" and set it to your browser window, then choose "hotkey" and make sure it's set to something not used by another program (F10 works well for me). You can then choose to open the screenshots in xnview or to save them automatically, opening them in xnview is better, so that you can check them, trim them, etc (but either one will work). Once you make your selections and click "ok", xnview will minimize itself, then you can go to your browser and just hit F10 (or whichever key you chose) to get your screenshot/s.


If you have to have your pics in JPG format, you should go into the options for JPG (simplest way is to just choose the JPG format on the save dialog, then click the options button) and set the "subsampling factor" to "1x1, 1x1, 1x1". This will eliminate the ghosting & washed out colors that you usually see when someone saves graphic images as JPG.

However, I have a confession to make. I did not click PrtScr (that would have worked well with my clipboard program); I highligted the whole webpage from top to bottom (covering more that one visible screen), and then, I did Ctrl+C to get it into the clipboard program. That is how it gave me only the .html option and the txt option. Sorry for my misremembering!

I have SnagIt, but it does not let me capture the entire scrolling page, and the reason may be found it the URL of this webpage:

It seems to be a spreadsheet, and SnagIt does obviously not work with it in scrolling-capture mode.

So, what I really wanted to do was to capture the entire, scrolling page and convert it to something that XnView could deal with. Any possible way to do that?

Capturing scrolling pages is tricky. The only way to do it is with browser add-ons. What browser are you using?

Screengrab works well, but it hasn't been updated for newer versions of FF (it should still work on them though, you just have to go through some hoops first): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... creengrab/

Clicking on the preview thumbnails will take you to the fullsize versions of the screenshots.

Which version of SnagIt do you have? Is the SnagIt printer driver installed on your system?

My version of SnagIt is 11.0.1. The printer driver is installed.

Nothing copies the scrolling Google document page (probably spreadsheet type) that I wanted to copy. So, I take "screen-visible" images (12) and later combine them in a Word file.

I downloaded FastStone Capture, and it works on "normal" scrolling web pages.

So, I have, with your help, guys, gone as far as I can. Thank you very much!

Google Docs allows you to download the spreadsheet in Excel format, right?
My old SnagIt v7.2.5 works much better with Excel than with Firefox: Input » Properties » Scrolling » Window Auto Scroll options » Scroll direction: Both

Yes, you can download the "real" spreadsheet (all responses in a spreadsheet) to your computer (Excel). But what I am talking about is the results shown in diagrams (staple diagrams, pie charts, etc.). It only downloads as htm. However, when I "Save Page As", the result is gobbledygook.

Wow, I suddenly got the result I wanted in TWO ways. You may want to excuse me for seeming flaky ... I am, practically single-handed (and I an NOT bragging) restructuring an organization that I am involved in. Needless to say, it is mindboggling.

First, instead of trying my old Word 2000 (running out of memory in trying to do what I did), I highlighted the whole document in Google Docs and did Ctrl+C. I then pasted this into my new Word 2010, which worked like a charm. In business.

Second, I started the same way (highlighted the whole document in Google Docs and did Ctrl+C), then saved the cipboard version as an .htm file. After that, I opened this file in my browser, and there, I applied SnagIt scrolling–copy function, and saved the result in SnagIt as a jpg file.

You know, a few days ago, I tried to do something similar to my "First" above, but got a resulting file with very low resolution, so low that it could not be used. In any event, I now have two ways of doing this, the "First" above being the most direct way. I can now convert this .docx file to a .pdf and distribute it to all the people invited to take the survey. Glorious!!!

Thank you for getting my thoughts going in this cloud of restructuring mess in my brain Now, if I can just transfer my vry useful toolbars in Word 2000 to Word 2010, I will be a very happy person.
