8bit png and most gifs preview bug

As the title says, I can't display these items in the preview window. They appear fine when going to full view mode but the preview window just shows 2 tiny vertical stripes instead of the picture.
As far as I can tell it only affects 8bit pngs, but gifs were harder to track down where the difference is. Two gifs with seemingly exactly the same properties have different outcomes.
ie.. same bit depth and gif version.

Hello Pierre,
have the same Bug here.
(Debian Testing, XnView MP 0.51)
It is a problem with indicated Colors!.
When i change it with GIMP to RGB, the show correctly in Preview.

The thumbnail showed fine, but it doesn't display properly at full size.
Something to do with indexed color.
xubuntu 12.04-LTS ( x86_64)
