XnView and PDF files

I just installed the latest version of XnView (downloaded from your site) on a windows 7 PC
I want to use it to search my PDF library (many thousands of them in a NAS)
Everything installed well, but when some PDF files show as blank on the preview page. When I "open with Associated Program" they show perfectly. At first glance (not 100% sure) the issue seems to be associated with the size of the PDF file. Anything smaller than 500K it shows as it should but nothing larger shows in the preview.
Any ideas?
