This would be good for the XP style menu's but the default classic style should be iconless for pure speed reasons.

No way! Menu icons are bad, you should't use menu icons, mkay.

It's not a bad thing if it's optional. That way you can either have them, or not ;)

I like menu icons on some menus items. Microsoft has a nice balance of those menu items with and those without. Icons speed recognition if there are not too many of them.

Also, I have never noticed any ANY slowdown in my systems due to menus with icons versus menus without icons.

My feeling is that icons do slow menu display, but only by maybe a 1000th of a second or so. Not detectable by humans on modern systems.

I support this request, with option to disable maybe...

Same here.

There are too many items in the context menu, so it would be very nice and intuitive...

If XnView ever looks like that, I'll disown it so fast you'll just see blurs.

I don't mind the XP icons at all, they are examples of good, clean, easily recognized and easily distinguished (those are different requirements) icon design...

That said, I like the new Mezich icons much better for XNView. Love them, actually.

However, regardless of the icon set used, the Excel menu shown in that graphic is exactly what I hope for XNView. Notice how it is sparsely populated (not all menu items have icons). In use, one begins to internalize the groupings and spaces into ones motor memory (meaning mouse-movement, hand-to-eye coordination). After a while a mouse user becomes much more efficient selecting from the menu because there are some many visual (i.e., non-verbal... meaning: reading not necessary) cues for accurate mouse pointing.

This effect has been documented over and over again.

Please allow (some) icons in the XNView menus for us mouse-centric users.

PS. I just got one of these: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1774271,00.asp and have to sit so far back I can't even reach my keyboard anymore!!!

I'll support this request IF it can be enabled\disabled!

Not only for context menu, also for menu.

It's almost a must have for xnview's context menu, you know why...

It would be really useful, navigation would be intuitive, no need to read.

:) Hello !

- Same for me, I support if it could be disabled …

• The frozen amount of possible icons in the tool-bar binds to use the menus more than in other programmes, so some icons there could help…

Seconded.

I learned how helpful these icons can be by comparing the menus of a freshly installed Firefox browser to the menus after installing this menu icons extension:
CuteMenus - Crystal SVG (on this page, click on the screenshot)

Something like that for XnView...that would rock!
