Hello,

Attached is an image example.

I have an old CD that files more than 1300 images of scanned antique popular devotional songs, with a search and index utility, but it runs only in Windows 16 bits (Win 3.1/95/98/Me), and the company that developed it doesn’t exist. Now, I can run it in a Virtual Windows 95 machine, but I am trying to open the images in any actual image viewer in order to rebuild the search and index utility with actual Windows tools. I have open the image files in an Hex editor and all of them begin with ‘GMz’ (Hex 47 4d 7a).

Thanks and best regards.

Code: Select all

File size: 251KB
Match	Ext File type Related URL	Def's author
100,0%	BS BIN PrintFox (C64) bitmap Marco Pontello

Peter,

Thanks for your info., but it is not a Printfox file. It is an image file included with another 1300 plus in an old CD for Windows 3.1 with his own DB manager and viewer, than also works in Windows 95 but can't run in Windows XP nor in Windows 7.

The file signature in a Hex editor is '47 4d 7a 00' and I need an Image Viewer that can show this image format in order to be capable to use all this images in an actual Windows machine, as the company that originally developped the CD doen't exists anymore.

What says Mr. Google when searching filenames and so on? I found an "Autologic" company, but that's maybe another stuff ..

  1. Open G0027.GM and delete everything up until the RJSX string.
  2. Save the file and rename it to G0027.ARJ.
  3. Extract G0027.BMP with your favorite archiving utility (UNARJ will do).

Same to you, Peter (-:

As it turns out, 7-Zip/WinRAR/WinZip can open an unedited G0027.GM. You don't even have to rename it.

@Pierre: Does XnView's archive add-on support ARJ? Is there a way to make it treat GM files as ARJ archives?
  • 7Z
  • ACE
  • ARJ = .CBA + .GM
  • RAR = .CBR
  • SQX
  • ZIP = .CBZ + .DOCX + .XLSX + .PPTX + .WMZ + .JAR + .XPI
