Bad Character/Bad Keyword Error

I am trying to view several .vff files, and when I try to open one I get a "Bad Character" or "Bad Keyword" error depending on which file I am trying to open. I need to convert these .vff files to another format (jpeg, png, tiff, raw, etc...) but I am not able to do anything with these files. I have no idea what he problem is. I have XnView set to recognize .vff files, it just gives that error whenever I try to open them, and does nothing when I try to convert them.
