Ubuntu: Always open images with XnViewMP

I have very very very often a struggle to get XnView to be the default picture viewer. I have asked questions on AskUbuntu, but they get closed.
For a while, it went good. But now on my new laptop (Mint 14 Cinnamon AKA Ubuntu 12.10), I cannot choose open pictures with XnView by default, again.
Look, here is XnViewMP, I can choose it no problem:
But it opens just once, it does not replace the default. So I go to properties, the Open With tab. No Xnview under defaults or recommended:
No XnView under All Applications either:
Maybe there is a trick that I am not getting. But it's a fact that nothing from a repository has ever been a problem. On my desktop I don't even dare upgrading to 0.51 because I finally got to get 0.50 open by default, and I don't remember what finally did it.
Any advice?
