Idea - Mapbrowser / GPS / Area filter mode

Since I got my first GPS I dreamed about simple filtering of geotagged pictures collections by location. But I have found none picture viewer or collection manager with such function.

My idea is as follows:
1. To have map panel.
2. To select an area by mouse.
3. To see only pictures with GPS coordinations inside of selected range. (Recursively - also from subdirs)
Image

Is it too complicated to implement or just nobody is interested in such function? Or am I only an idiot who cannot search properly and this function already exists in some app:-)?
Nobody of you ever for example wanted to see changes of the same place through the time? Or nobody of you ever knew where some picture was taken but didn't remember when?

If some more people would be interested, could you consider adding it, Pierre?

And multiple filtering (coords + date) would be cool as well, it would allow me to show picts from my visit to selected place on selected year, in case I visit it weekly/monthly/annually (for example).

Digikam has it

1. Geo-location filter at left pane, shows a map integrated with either kde's marble (world globe) or with G maps
  • shows groups of geotagged images on a map with count of images,
group divides into smaller groups as you zoom in
click on a group and its images' thumbnails are shown in centre pane
    >>rectangle select: right-click drag area to select multiple groups
images can be sorted youngest/oldest shown first
2. Geo-location in center pane: again a marble map globe or G maps, which shows geo-tagged images from the database in groups with image count
  • images shown on map will reflect what is filtered in the left pane
3. Geo-tagging window shows two maps which can move around separately, you just drag images to the map to geo-tag them.
  • select images from an album before opening the geo-tagging tool
so if you've got tons of geo-tagging to do, digikam could be useful to you....
+1 for these features to be in xnviewmp too!

Thanks for suggestion. I was using Digikam few years ago but in those days it probably wasn't implemented yet. I'll check it.

Now it is four of us. Still too few. How to attarct more people to notice and support this thread? Maybe change of name. What would you say to e.g. title "Cute kitteh pics" or "Pneis enlargement solution"? (Just kidding) :-p

Edit:
Updated mockup in the first post to be more illustrating and changed first post topic name to be more descriptive (Nobody else seems to be interested for now so at least this theme will be easier to find in case somebody will be looking for something like that).
P.S. Digikam serves well for this purpose. Still would be sweet to see such function in lighweight app like XnView.
