0.56: Still No Drag & Drop (sigh!)

Tree is dead, that is.

1. Good: Thanks a lot, Pierre, for a bunch of new improvements. Well done! :D
2. Bad:
  • no drag & drop between browser and folder tree. IOW, we cannot drag photos and other subfolders from browser (thumbnail pane) on tree folders. Oh, pain! :(
  • no drag & drop between folder trees. IOW, we cannot rearrange the folders in the tree. Oh pain x2! :( :( We must resort on Cut + Paste / Move to... acrobacies or, perhaps, better to switch to Windows Explorer... or ACDSee... or FastStone Viewer... or XnView... or Zoner Photo Studio... or AfterShotPro... or XnView (???)
What's stunning is that drag & drop from the Browser (thumbnail pane) to a standard Windows drop target (ie. Windows Explorer, other programs like CD burners etc.) works!

What stops you to implement a simple drag & drop since Qt Tree widget supports it natively and the moving files engine you have already done in XnView/XnViewMP?

PS: We can live with drag & drop on the Folder Tree. A very good thing would be if the same drag & drop will be supported in the Favorites Tree. The best would be if drag & drop will be supported in the Categories tree. Ideally, if drag & drop will be supported in the Categories Tree from the Information Pane also.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the new release.

Yes, drag 'n' drop was also the first feature I checked in the new version.
But I still am happy with "normal" XnView and FSViewer, for the time being. I'm looking forward to when drag and drop is introduced in XnView MP (hopefully soon ;)

Until then, merci beaucoup for the other updates and bugfixes, Pierre.
Keep up the good work!

Hehehe... pretty normal.

There are two ways to organizing files (ok, images):
  • On Disk. For this good file management is essential and the most anoying part here is the lack of drag and drop. Almost a showstopper.
  • In Database. IOW, keywords, ratings, colors etc. The keywords are good but you need manpower to do it. For ratings (especially) and colors we need a very good Compare engine which unfortunatelly till date, XnView doesn't have. See here: http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=28020
