Error message while opening .sld files

Post by Guest from Bonn/Germany »

Hello at all,

I just installed version 1.80 on my WIN 98 SE PC.

When I try to open a slideshow created with the 1.74 version in the xnview browser I get the error message "Das Format der Datei 'xyz.sld' konnte nicht bestimmt werden".

While I open the same slideshow in 'Eigene Dateien' I can see the first picture, but if I want to go to the next picture, the slideshow window is closed.

Another problem is that if I create a new slideshow and want to start it, I only see a black window with the directory information.

Unfortunately I can't find any solution in the options, so I think it's a bug.

I hope you can help me.

When you press Enter on .sld file in the browser in v1.80? It's a known bug with any non image file, but it should work when you start it from explorer or file manager.

Make sure that you have checked the option "Associate Slide File with XnView" in "Tools > Options | Category "Installation" (German version: Werkzeuge > Optionen | Installaieren).

Once this option is set, you can open your slide show by selecting the .sld file in XnView browser and pressing F3 key. Also double-clicking in Windows Explorer will work. Unfortunately, double-clicking in XnView will not work. I've just placed a request "Browser: Double-click should open slide show" to make sure that this will be implemented in one of the next releases.

Hello again,

the problem still exists:

Doing this, the following, which I described above, happens:
While I open the same slideshow in 'Eigene Dateien' I can see the first picture, but if I want to go to the next picture, the slideshow window is closed.

That I have already done, but it won't work.

Strange, try to delete the association, and create it again with xnview/option

Hello,

now everything works fine!

By trying the last given suggestion by Pierre, which hasn't been the reason for my problem (see below), I found out that in the slide show-options menue I have to disable 'Use high quality' ('Hohe Darstellungsqualität' in german). So I can see all the pictures, otherwise I only see the background colour. But at what time can I use this function because slidshows won't even work with that option by using .tif- or .jpg-files. But I think this might be another topic.

I'm so sorry that I might have confused you, because it's my fault that I got the error message "Das Format der Datei 'xyz.sld' konnte nicht bestimmt werden". Now I found out that I have to open a .sld file by the 'open'-button in the slideshow dialog, and if I want to see the next picture, I have to do it by a right click...

"Ashes on my head" or like we say it in german: "Asche auf mein Haupt".

I want to thank you for your help and by that time for this fantastic program. I like it very much.

Best regards fom Bonn
