Hello,

I am a new user of XnViewMP, please forgive me if any of my questions has already been raised.

I have come across XnViewMP as it appears to be a very good image viewer with integrated EXIF, XMP and IPTC editor. In an attempt to organize my own photos, I would like to be able to read/write a few of these entries, probably the most popular and basic of them such as Original/Creation/Modification Date, Comments/Description, Categories/Keywords, Make/Model/Artist.

I have successfully been able to write XMP and IPTC information into some sample pictures, but I have not found the way to write EXIF data other than Dates (through the Change timestamp command). How can I write other EXIF data?

Because of the many information stored as EXIF, XMP and IPTC data, and the relative confusion that may result when working with them, is there a way to select only a limited number of such entries and have them displayed according to one's needs? (In other words, hide rows like F-Number and Colour space while keeping User comment or Camera Model)

...can be done with a specialized tool: exiftool ... (with a GUI: exiftoolgui, etc...)

Yes, I know Exiftool and ExiftoolGUI. The former is an excellent command-line editor, I tried it last year and worked fine. Too bad, it is user-unfriendly by its nature (command-line programs remind me of my first 8086 PC back in 1988), and I do not need all those flags and options anyway. I could not try the latter, as it does not run on my old Windows version. After trying other similar programs (all disappointing at some extent), I decided to go for an image viewer like XnViewMP instead.

So, it seems it is not possible to write EXIF data from within XnViewMP, maybe I should move this topic to the Suggestions forum...

...Hello, you can play with some of theme only, (but of course not all) (EXIF color label, rating, timestamp, GPS (with 2.xx), exif thumb rotate, thumbnails ...)

... and yes, maybe a feedback from users is needed to know exactly what is the priority (to build a wish list of future supported exif fields into xnviewMP) ?

Who knows, maybe I am not the only one trying to organize my photos and somebody else is interested in the same features as well. That would certainly make XnViewMP unique...
