"A directory cannot be renamed"

Inspired by the post http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=28853 posted few minutes ago by someone else, I raise another problem from the same category:
The directory which is scanned by the thread which builds the thumbnails cannot be renamed and the program rejects the user's action with an icy silence.
How to reproduce:
1. Open a directory for which the program needs enough time to build the thumbnails (one with many, big photos etc.).
2. While the progress bar/gauge in the lower-right corner shows that the program still builds the thumbnails, try to change the name of the directory in the Folders Tree (Categories Pane)
Expected: The program suspends the thread in a stable state, renames the directory, updates the database and resumes the thread.
- or - (easier solution but not the best one)
The program throws a message "The background thread scans the folder. Try again later"
Actual: The new name of the folder "vanishes" and reappears the old one.
