I know that it would be a lot of work, but the possibility to configure completely all elements on the screen would be a great improvement:
- configure each bar (Toolbar, small toolbar above main area, Menu, Tabs) and even move elements between them
- move and dock them anywhere in the window

If this is not possible in the short term, please consider the following improvements:
- possibility to hide the small toolbar above the main area
- possibility to move Tabs ("folder tabs") just to the right of the Menu (same line)
- possibility to show the status info into the Title bar, right-aligned
=> this would be an easy way to maximize the main area.
