Wrong click in XnView - all programs blocked

Have been using XnView for TIFF/JPEG etc transformations and screen capture many yrs. Then played too carelessly probably with .lnk files. All program icons on desktop changed to XnView "eye" and all programs blocked. Clicking a program "eye" icon does not start the program but displays a list of icons and icon sizes. Didn't succeed in changing the "eye" to any other icon and not to start the original program. Feeling like the chimp who got a loaded hand grenade to play with. Cumbersome way to open a program: Right click the "eye" icon (Program name is OK !). Result = List, left click "Properties" . Left click "Location of the file" . Result: list of the files of the program. In most cases find a subprogram (with correct icon and name) . 2 x left click and BINGO, the program opens.
Any suggestions ? Gustav80 (or chimp)

Thanks for your problem report, Gustav. Seems like your Windows system, probably the registry, got corrupted somehow. Which XnView version do you use? Which Windows version (XP, Vista, 7)?

Do I understand correctly: ALL your icons on the desktop no longer show the original icon but the XnView "eye" icon? Does the problem persist if you shutdown and restart your computer (Windows)?

Hi ! Thanks a lot ! My Windows: Wi 7 Home Premium 6.1.7601, Sevice Pack 1 (x64). XnVieW: File(s) 1.99.0 , Product 1.99.5. All except following two icons changed to "eye". Trashcan and Windows Start remained original. Gustav80
