Scanning - Acquire into - Files have no extension

I have been using XnView as a batch scanner for the past couple of weeks.
My process:
File->Select TWAIN Source
File->Acquire into
Format BMP
At first everything went without incident.
However, for the past couple of days there has been a problem. The files that are scanned don't have an extension anymore. Whereas before my files would be:
Epson007.bmp
Epson008.bmp
etc.
Now they are extensionless:
Epson007
Epson008
File explorer has show file extensions selected, it's not that. No thumbnails appear but when I manually add the extension in file explorer thumbnails appear.
I don't think I changed any options in XnView, though it was updated via a Ninite installer.
Trying to fix this, I tried changing the filename from "Epson" to "Epson.bmp" in the Batch scanning options, but that doesn't work. It just produces a file like "Epson.bmp007" with no extension.
Running Version 2.11 (Nov 20 2013)
Any ideas or options to change to fix this behavior?
Thanks in advance for your help!
