Halo, XnViewMP Users.
I have been looking for an option to make a check-box appear before the file name so that if I click that check-box then the file is selected for a process such as copy, move, etc.
Does that check-box exist ? Where is the option to make it appear on the file-list ?
If it does not exist, please consider this as my request.
Thanks
.

while viewing thumbnails, right-click your mouse and you will see an option called Tag. expand and review those functions. the last one is "Show Tag Box" looks like what you are looking for. there are other options that I didn't know until I looked because of your post, like you can use the space bar to also select photos, and then go to Show tagged files, and of course there are basic Windows functions like CTRL-A for select all, a CTRL-(and click on random files), and Shift-(and click for a range of files).

Thanks for the reply, Hollywood.
I think the TagBox is not what I am looking for. Perhaps, the check-box for selecting item is not there.
You can find the similar option on Windows Explorer of Windows7.
Menu bar > Organize > Folder and search options > tab: View > Use check boxes to select items.
However, I do not like Windows Explorer's behaviour concerning with the check box and clicking the items (e.g. file-name)
If you already select several items by using check-box and then you unintentionally click a file name, then all the selected items will became unselected. This is very annoying.
If XnViewMP developers implement check-boxes for selecting items, I hope another sub-option is provided to avoid that annoying situation.
e.g.
-------------------------
[__] Use check boxes to select items
[__] Disable Left-Click
[__] Disable Ctrl+Click
[__] Disable Shift+Click
-------------------------
The first option is active and the second one is not active =
You can select files by using the check-box. If you click a file-name, the selection will change.
Both options are active =
You can select files by using the check-box. The selection will not be changed if you click a file-name.
For both combination of options, the Ctrl+click and Shift+click can still be used for selecting multiple items if they are not disabled.
Personally, I will activate "Disable Shift+Click" because many times I unintentionally make items unselected while doing shift+drag to move items to another folder.
-------------------------
XnViewMP developers, is the above request possible and feasible to be implemented ?
Thanks

Halo, Pierre.
Sorry for this late reply.
Honestly, I do not know what the current Tag-Box is for and how it should behave.
You can see the difference between the current Tag-Box and the Check-Box I request (which is similar to the Check-Box in WindowsExplorer).
In Browse Mode, Please select the "Details" View.
Make the Tag-Box appear.
Click 4 Tag-Boxes to make them checked.
Click 1 image-title (that has / does not has its tag-box selected)
Push keyboard's Delete button.
If you go on, there is only 1 image deleted; not 4 images.
So, Tag-Box is not meant for selecting items. At least, not for selecting items as the Check-Box in Windows Explorer is.
Thanks.

There is a problem with Delete, it works for other operations...

OK, Pierre. It means that Tag-Box should work for selecting items. Right ?
Should it work for the followings:
- for selecting some items then drag-and-drop selected items to copy/move them to another folder ?
- for selecting some items then do the batch-rename ?
So, as far as I tried, for 0.64 XnViewMP, Tag-Box does not work for selecting items then:
- deleting
- copying to another folder
- moving to another folder
- batch renaming
I haven't tried other operations/commands. Can other users try ?
Thanks.

1. Go to Tools | Settings | Interface | Shortcuts... and find the 'Select tagged files' command. Assign a shortcut there. (Ctrl+\ - in the honour of Norton Commander)
2. Press 'Ok' to save the shortcut.
3. In the browser pane use the tag-box to select your photos
4. Press Ctrl+\ (or alternatively go to Edit | Select tagged files...)
5. Do your job!
Or for a more powerfull engine go and vote for the
Albums / QuickCollections!
...because istm that you need a better task-based selection tool.
