Can't rename a filename if it contains a colon (:) in Linux

I can't rename a filename if it contains a colon (:) in LInux. For example, if I try to change the name to this:
"2013-12-22 23:50:00 test.jpg" (without the quotes)
then XnView doesn't rename it. There is no error dialog and there's nothing in the stdout/stderr output.
I'm using XnViewMP 0.61 and Kubuntu 12.04.
