RAW support

I have a raw image file (.arw) from a Sony Alpha NEX 6 camera. XnViewMP 0.64 displays the file, and I am thankful for that. The thumbnail and preview images don't match. Neither matches the thumbnail and preview as seen in Windows Explorer (Win 7 64-bit). I believe Windows uses a Sony driver to display the raw image file. Any insights into this problem? Can XnView be made to utilize the Sony driver?

In Settings>View - Camera RAW, do you have embedded preview?

This is my first time shooting in RAW. Please correct me where I don't make sense.

Using ExifTool I have learned that my raw file contains both a 160x120 thumbnail and a 1616x1080 preview jpeg. The 4:3 thumbnail has black horizontal bars padding the 3:2 image. The preview image is very slightly squished. Using ImageMagick (which delegates to dcraw) I have learned that the uncorrected raw image has visible lens distortion. The Sony generated image has color and geometric correction applied. Hopefully I can now tell which image I am seeing.

Now I also see that there is a thumbnail database that must be rebuilt when I make changes. That will help too.

Back when I was working only with jpegs, I unchecked Settings>Thumbnail>Use embedded thumbnail to avoid the black horizontal bars. I think this now has the effect of preventing the raw file's preview image from being used to generate the thumbnail.

As for Settings>View>Camera RAW. Setting this to embedded preview does't help. It behaves just like it was set to half size. And the half or full size raw image isn't the same as the output from ImageMagick or the Sony RAW Driver. How is it generated?

Yes, right. The RAW will be loaded and not embedded jpeg

It's only for viewing not thumbnail
