base path in xnviewmp

I'm confused about how the base path works in XnViewMP. What I define as the "base path" remains in the paths of files that are placed there (as shown by the program, and by using an SQLite browser). The paths do not change if I modify the base path in the settings. If I move the files as well, then the program doesn't find them anymore, even if I changed the base path the same way.
How is the base path supposed to work? I'd like to be able to use relative paths (in particular, so that I can move my whole folder structure elsewhere in the future), but it doesn't seem to work. I'm using xnViewMP on linux. Any help would be appreciated.
