Hello together,

my english is not really good, so:

i had to buy a new computer because my old one (Dell) doesn't get drivers for windows above xp.
At the old xp-computer i had above 6000 pictures and many of them have a category entry made with XnView. After taking all pictures to the new computer (Windows my categories are missing. The categories i have implemented manually into the new XnView. But the pictures don't have the entries. I guess it has to do with the "category.db" and so on. Is it enough to copy the old category.db to the new computer and at what place do i have to copy it?

I must ask whether XnView categories are principally something, that are to apply for my use case?

I invested many hours of my time, to give many pictures a category. After giving categories, the depth of the categoies increased, so that I gave many pictures a second and a third time categories. By the way: it would have been nice, if categories could not only used with OR (disjunction). It would have been much more worth tu use it as a AND (conjunction)

I want to use the categories to make presentations about several themes.

I want to copy the pictures to several computers at different places. But for me it is absolutely unacceptable, if this is not possible.

So my question:
Is there a way to get my pictures inclusive the categories from one computer to another one?
Is there any other way to use any "Entry" (eg. exif or iptc or anything else) ot whatever to get all manually inserted informations on every computer eventually also when changing from windows to another system?

I have tried the following:
I have copied the category.db from the old computer (XP) to the new one (W8). But it did not function. I guess that the path is not the same and so it didn't work.
I opened the category.db with Notepad ++ and changed the old path (C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Harald Zimmermann\Eigene Dateien\) to the new one (C:\Users\h\Dell\). I did this for all entries. It didn't do what I hoped.
Kow I am frustrated and don't know what to do.

If you change the pathname, category can no more work if you don't change the pathname in the db...
You can't do that with a text editor, you need to use sqlite browser. If you want to change your path, please send me the .db?
