Hi
When I have key worded using categories and colour coded some images, if I move, copy or rename them the keywords and colour codes are not retained with the images, or is it me?
Also, when I tried to rename some dng files, I get an error report saying not renamed?
Any ideas?
Thanks
tonyt

If you do on-disk primitives from within XnView MP the cataloging info should be preserved.
If you do them from outside of XnView MP the things get more complicated (like with any other photo manager):
- if your program is set up to keep the cataloging info in DB only then this information is "not retained with the images" (more correctly, the data from DB points to a - now - non-existent file)
- if your program is set up to 'push' the metadata to image files then the information will live also in files (if the file format supports it) or in a sidecar (if the format doesn't support embedded metadata) - it is a slower process but has the advantage that you can copy/move the files (and sidecars if exist) from outside of program. The disadvantage is that this metadata isn't searchable unless it is entered again in a cataloging program (XnView MP or other).

Try again.
What error it was?
Perhaps there are two files with the same name?
A read-only media?
Can you be more specific?

Many thanks for such a swift reply - how do I set my program to do that? The name changer just reported an error saying the files had not been renamed?
Cheers
