TL;DR: If a file is tagged and removed (eg. deleted, moved, renamed etc.) outside of XnView, the file will remain 'forever' in the "Tags" Album/Collection.

Steps:

1. Tag some files.
2. Close XnView
3. Delete/Move somewhere else the files tagged at point 1.
4. Start XnView
5. Go to Filter pane and select 'Special Items\Tag'

Here the discussion begins:

Actual:

The files tagged at the point 1 (still) appear with a blank thumb (after a while - most probably a storage timeout) and when the user tries to untag them, the GUI responds correctly by untaging them, however at a refresh (for ex. go to a folder and come back to the Special Items\Tag) the missing files reappear.

Expected:

The most correct behavior is IMHO to allow untaging on the missing files. Also show their thumb since the thumb is in the DB. DO NOT clear automatically the tag flag because these files can be on an (accidentally or not) offline media. Perhaps a dialog saying "Offline files detected. Do you want to clear the Tag?" would be the best solution.

Note:

Most probably the same behavior is to be expected with Rating/Colors/Keywords.

Hence, To Do:

A. Allow changing the catalog info for offline (missing) files.
B. Show the thumbnail of the offline (missing) files. (critical importance for the future development of the program)
C. (optional) A dialog saying "Offline files detected. Do you want to..." {Find Them}, {Clear the DB info}, {Just nothing}

1. Bump! :)
2. I needed this also for Colouring and Keywords/Categories but (fortunately) it seems to work there. The same I suspecting for Rating. Hence only the Tags aren't deleted from DB if the file doesn't exist.
