Hi,

I have just been adapting my setup for Sport Photography and now using XNViewMP v0.68 on OSX Mavericks, I personally think it is a great piece of software to use and love the batch FTP button easy to access to send my files across and downsize them at the same time, Great swell running faster than Photoshop...I only have one question how do I edit the XMP data on my JPEG files? In Photoshop I use to go file > File info and edit it from there importing a pre made XMP file for the copyright and edit the caption, Is there anyway in XnViewMP 0.68 I can import a XMP file to a JPEG image and edit the caption from there?

Here is easier/quicker to do it than in Photoshop.
No need to hassle/hunt/track/open external XMP files.

You work with metadata templates.

What is a 'metadata template'? Is a collection of default/pre-filled values for specified metadata fields in IPTC/XMP editor.

How to make a template:

1. Select a image on which you want to setup the template.
2. Press Ctrl+I (on the default keyboard layout) or go to Tools | Metadata | Edit IPTC/XMP...
3. Fill ONLY the fields which you want to put in the template.
4. Press the 'Save template...' button in lower-right part of the form (exactly under the preview)
5. Give a descriptive name to your template and press {Ok}

- if you want to save multiple templates repeat steps 3-5 as needed. Perhaps in between you'll want to press 'Clear all fields' tough...

How to use a template:

1. Select the images on which you want to assign the metadata (yes, the IPTC editor supports multiple selection - you have "<" and ">" buttons to navigate)
2. Press Ctrl+I
3. If you want to apply a template press "Load Template..." and choose the desired template from the Drop-down list which appears.
4. Fill the other fields as needed.

This is all!

Glad to help!

However there is yet another way if you want to fill a sizable number of photos with your metadata.

For example you want to assign the 'Copyright' field to 'John Doe' for 500-1000-many,many,many... photos:

1. Select the desired photos (from a folder, search, filter etc.)
2. Go to Tools | Batch Convert... (or press Ctrl+U) and fill the fields accordingly in the 'Output' tab with what/where/how you want to save the new files. Read the screen there.
3. After this, in the Batch Convert dialog go to Actions tab and press 'Add Action >' and choose from 'Image' section the IPTC/XMP menu.
4. Fill the needed metadata fields accordingly.
5. Press 'Convert' and wait for the process to finish.

As an aside this batch job can be saved by pressing the 'Save Job' button in the left-bottom corner. It is the small button which has a blue floppy disk on it. Btw do you know what a floppy disk is???
