Cannot purge recent documents - help?

I've noticed that I cannot purge recent documents from my history. It shows up when I click Start>Xnview. I went into the interface and unchecked both boxes that say "Show most recently used files in file menu" and the one for the submenu. I also checked off the box to purge on exit. I hit Purge Now. Unfortunately, the recent history is still there, and if I open new files and close them, they still appear. How to fix this? I'm using Xnview v. 1.92, Libformat v. 4.85.
Please do not advise to upgrade. I do not want to upgrade, I like things the way I'm used to them. Thanks!
