Hi !

I installed the last version of XNview 1.81.1 on windows 2000.
when i try to open a jpg file, nothing happened.(open by double clicking in the windows explorer).
the file type is associated with XNVIEW.
When i try to open a png, gif, or bmp file, there is no matter.

I can see as many xnview.exe in the task manager as i tryed to open jpg files.
If i try to open a jpg file from an usb key, i cannot unplugged it before i killed manually all the xnview.exe

thx for helping me solving that

Just to try---

:) Hello !

• A so weird issue, I can only give you some tips in order to circle the problem better…

- I've not Win 2K, hence I couldn't test with the same OS.
¤ First, please go to Options >> General >> StartUp >> Tick the box “Only one instance"; so, you will not get a lot of <xnview.exe> in a background thread.
¤ Try that follows :
- Disable an eventual virus scanner…
- Delete the association with *.JPG in Windows (... >> Folders Options >> File types or so...)
- Remove the nick for JPG in XnView : Options >> Associations
- 2-click on a *.JPG file in Explorer or another file manager if you have any, that might call a Windows dialogue asking for "Open with…",
- Set XnView…
- Maybe reboot the PC, "in the case",
- Test again…
• Questions :
- did you download the XnView archive from the official site, if "Yes", what archive did you get (installer SFX or ZIP) ?
- have you <XnShellEx.exe> in the <XnView> folder ?

 Kind regards,
Claude

:) Hello Franck !

- First, I would suggest you two things :
1. You might suscribe the Forum, it's easier to edit the posts and that allows the PMs...
2. You could continue in the French forum here, though I've not many problems to express my ideas in English. ;)

• Just some thoughts to advance a bit :
- Try to remove the nick at Options >> Browser >> Use Shell context to open pictures
- Set the INI file to save the options rather than the Register —> Options >> Install —> the two last boxes must be unchecked, that makes saving in the INI file, and the file shall be located in the XnView folder itself.
- Whether there is no progress, attempt to uninstall / reinstall the program in that configuration (with INI) and from the ZIP archive.
 Kind regards,
Claude

Hi, I had the same problem when upgrading to the newest version of XnView...

Apparantly the open action on JPG/JPEG files gets registered incorrectly. When I go to the File Types window (Map Options in Windows 2000) and click Advanced... I noticed the open action refers to "D:\Program Files\Xnview" "%1", this obviously should be "D:\Program Files\XnView\xnview.exe" "%1"

Hope this is useful, haven't tested it with other filetypes yet... I'm using Win2000.

Even with those tips, it still doesnt work.

I try it on a second computer now, with the latest version of XNVIEW, and i have the same problem.

maybe should i downgrade ? If yes, where can i find the older version ?

Fine here ---

:) Hello ! Bonjour,

¤ I don't see any reason to downgrade… I use XnView last version 1.80.1 under Win 98 SE and under XP-Pro SP1, all associations work fine here…

- Did you try to delete / remake the JPG association, like I advised you in my first reply ? If you didn't, you could install (even temporarily) Total Commander with which it's easy to suppress / remake / fix up / associations.

- Like Litegod points out above, there is a (known) :bugconfirmed: in the installer of 1.80.1
- I never use the SFX-archive to update the program, I make that “by hand” from the ZIP one.
• And again, it should be easier to communicate here if you would suscribe the Forum :P

Claude

:) Hello !
- Nice to hear that the issue is solved !

{ Aside : BTW : only the Admins. know you real email address, you can disable it in your profile; moreover, even if the [Email] button is displayed, the emails are sent via the board email stuff, with a replacement “XnView board address”… }

 Kind regards,
