Getting rid of Thumbnails in JPEG ?

How can I get rid of the embedded Thumbnail in a JPEG file without loosing the EXIF information?
Reason: XnView uses this thumbnail in its thumbnail view in the browser. However, the thumbnail does not get updated when I modify the image, so it shows the wrong, unmodified view in the browser.
If I could drop the embedded thumbnail then XnView would be forced to create its own from the modified image.

Is there a tool that can do what I want? Could this be made an option in XnView (like save/don't save EXIF/IPTC data)?

There is a better way to handle this within XnView:
Go to Menu:Tools>Options>Browser>Thumbnail
and uncheck "Use embedded thumbnail" (bottom of the page). You will get what you want (I use it as well).

Actually, I am wondering if it should not be the default setting... to avoid misunderstandings of differences between thumbnails and the real image.

Olivier describes the way to go.

If you really want to remove the EXIF thumbnail you can open the image in XnView and use "Edit>Metadata>Remove EXIF thumbnail".
