my first post, so be gentle

First let me thank Pierre for all the effort and time spent on XnView.

Wonderful work, great program, and as I see, great support. The interaction also, as many of the users are communicating with developer(s).

That encouraged me to ask my question:

Is it possible to "Shrink" the Categories tree? Every time I start the XnViewMP I get the Categories tree expanded, and with lots of categories and sub and sub-sub categories - it gets hard to find the one(s) I want to apply. Scrolling all the way down and up is no fun. I usually first "shrink" all the sub-categories and categories, and then expand one by one just the one(s) I currently need.

p.s. - there is an option:

Categories - options - Action - Open tree

- but it does - nothing.

So - just to inform you that you can shrink all the sub-categories just by clicking the "..." button.
I don't know is it a new feature, or was it there before.
I just know that I sure have tried it in the v0.71, and it wasn't working - for me.

the '...' to shrink is enough, or it's better that have a setting to not shrink at startup?

As you can see, the 'Action' menu is a set of radio buttons which means options, not actions. IOW by clicking on an option, it doesn't 'do' anything by itself.

These options are related to the incremental search field above where when you'll find a keyword it will assign that keyword to the current selection or open the tree to that keyword, depending on what option is selected in 'Action' sub-menu.

Very useful when someone wants to do extended editing on enough categories in tree.

Can't it do "toggle"? Sometimes it's better to have it shrink, sometimes it's better to have it expanded.

Of course, if you want to spoil us like a little child getting ice-cream every day - the last selected option could be remembered once the XnView is closed, and on next opening, it would be the same - until it is "toggled"...
