You are unable to open TIFF files that you are receiving, and are therefore unable to do anything with them?
If that is the problem, are you able to upload a sample file, remembering that if they are confidential it may be that someone will be able to open the file?

I can open them but can't then
1. file > save as >
Or
2. File > export.
Get the error above.
Should you be able to take that tiff and export or save or even printing is not functioning well.

Once a file of any type has been opened, it should be possible to carry out any normal action on it, as far as I know.
If possible could you upload a sample file, that is normally the way forward in cases like this...

/...
What format are you trying to save or export to, I'm wondering if you may be trying to output to a format that isn't supported for the colour mode (such as black and white) of the opened TIFF file?

ok.. here it is.. I have a plain old TIF file.. Black and White
1. Click the Save As button on the menu bar and choose PDF. Same error.. no file
2. File > Export > JPg.. works fine.. but not what i'm looking for..
So basically it seems like I can't Save the TIF file as a PDF.. is there a plugin needed?
I can upload the TIF if you like, but i don't think thats the issue?

Additionally.. i just tried the CONVERT button... to PDF.. and got the attached error..
What am i doing wrong? unless the program d/n allow for easy conversation from TIF to PDF...
My faxes are received as TIFF.. I wonder if I can change the default file type for the fax program to PDF..
Either way.. How do I fix the XNView issue? It's weird, eh?
Thanks in advance
RONNY

Might have just stumbled on something..
If I RIGHT CLICK on a TIF and say CONVERT INTO JPG... Then Click on that JPG and hit CONVERT on the MenuBar.. it saves a PDF no problem..
So it seems as if its a TIFF issue?

You want to save (or export or convert) TIFF files that are black and white directly as PDF files?
I've done a quick test and didn't have any problem saving a black and white TIFF directly as a PDF file with either FAX or JPG compression -- in the
File > Save As... menu you can use the
Options button to select the type of compresion used, but as far as I know any option should work.
So basically it seems like I can't Save the TIF file as a PDF.. is there a plugin needed?
Do you have Ghostscript installed, x32 as XnView Classic is 32-bit software? It's required to open PDF files but I'm not certain whether it's also required to save to the PDF format, but you say you have managed that in some circumstances...

Saving the file as a JPG changes the bit depth from 1-bit (black and white) to 8-bit as the JPEG format doesn't support 1-bit images, so that might possibly be relevant, although I don't immediately see why...

That would probably be worth doing as we're rather short of ideas at the moment...

I will check out everything you mentioned... including the compression..
Attached is the TIFF i've been playing with.. see if it works on your machine..
Could it be some configuration error within XNV?
I don't have Ghostscript installed, but I can if you think it MIGHT help..
Thanks again

well.. here it is again..
FILE > SAVE AS> (turned on compression to JPG) and it seems that did the trick !
I'll let you know if it pops up any further..
COMPRESSION was OFF..
Cheers!

I can't open the file...

- Error_message.png (7.65 KiB) Viewed 1149 times
... but it opens correctly in IrfanView, which I believe automatically corrects some errors, so the basic issue may be an incorrectly formed TIFF file.

I have been meaning to check whether it is actually required to write to the PDF format as well as open PDF files -- I imagine it is -- but haven't done so yet; I would install it anyway to be covered and it would also be needed for the other program if you need to use it.

XnView should be able to open and convert the file if
Ignore read errors (
Tools »
Options... »
Read/Write »
General) is activated.
rbergmandc1 wrote:I don't have Ghostscript installed, but I can if you think it MIGHT help...
XnView comes with built-in write support for PDF.
