Hello All,
Is their an easy straightforward way to disable and re-enable the Auto Refresh in the file list?
For the most part I like and depend on the auto refresh. But periodically I might be browsing files in a directory that is being actively added to by some other software or a file management operation. In these cases the tendency to place new files in sorted position and auto select them goes from a joyful convienence to a severe nuisance, as the selection is repeatedly jerked away from what I was looking at to the latest new addition to the file list.
I've been trying to find a menu option or a hotkey that will toggle auto refresh on and off but have thus far had no luck. Since other image management programs with a similiar auto refresh scheme offer this capability I'm sure others who have migrated from such programs will have encountered this and its my hope may know of a solution.
Thanks in advance,
Oberon Prime

Hello !
Is there an easy straightforward way to disable and re-enable the Auto Refresh in the file list? …
• Hum… AFAIK, the answer is "
No"

- As a workaround, you could disable the auto-refresh totally in
Options >> Browser >> remove the nick of the “
Auto Refresh” box, then just refresh when needed only with the “
Refresh” button of the browser small tool-bar…
• Of course, some keyboard-command, menu entry or button should be handier, but the addition of buttons is messy in XnView, 'cause the single bitmap per bar which must be upgraded in all skins…

- You could make a request for such a feature in a future version @ the appropriate section here.
- Personally, I would suggest a small arrow-button beside the "Refresh" button in order to open a small menu with the entry :
"[x] Enable / Disable Auto Refresh" (bistable with an info-nick)

Kind regards,
Claude

Thanks for the reply.
I think I'll post this is a suggestion for the next version. Truth is I had been a longtime ACDSee user and this little thing and pehaps having to hit F3 to launch certain files are amongst the only things i miss about that bloated mess of a program. So here is hoping that the suggestion does go unlistened to.

Do you have Options/Browser/Filelist/Auto select new files?

Yes I do. But I like autoselect most of the time as well. Its just periodically that I don't want it to be jerking the selection to the newly added file. If their was a quick toggle for auto select that would fulfill my needs as much as a toggle for auto refresh. But I figured that a toggle for auto refresh would be more useful for more people.
