Extract data from damaged RAW files

Hi,

I faced a huge RAID-1 corruption 2 years ago on my photo storage. I lost about 70% of my photos, essentially RW2 (Panasonic) & NEF (Nikon) files. I kept the damaged files (ie they are not viewable in LR or Preview, on Mac). Yesterday, I tried to open some of them with XnView... and some are viewable. I tried a basic export in TIFF and the result is not so bad (some lines are lost, and some dots are colored, but it is better than nothing).

I would like to extract data & metadata from these files and keep them in a good format, on a new storage.

For image data, I think the best choice in TIFF. But what about metadata ? Can I extract them to a file, or inject them into the TIFF ? Do you have suggestions ?

Thanks :)

Metadata like EXIF?

Yes, exactly, EXIF metadata. I am not sure to understand IPTC/EXIF/XMP difference, but I am looking for a way to integrate metadata to image file or extract them into a regular file. The final goal is to import the restored images into LR.

Corrupted RW2/NEF file (not viewable on LR) === XnConvert ===> image file (no loss, like TIFF) + metadata file (EXIF, etc) === import ===> photos displayed in LightRoom

By default XnView import EXIF metadata
