How can I center multiline text in slideshows/fullscreen?
Of course I can center the text block but the lines are
flushed left. (Using XnView 2.31, Windows 8.1)

You mean text added to the image(s) using Tools > Add Text... ?
Add_text.png
Add_text.png (12.94 KiB) Viewed 623 times
Although the text isn't center aligned in the preview when 'Center' alignment is selected, it is when added to the image:
Test_image.png
Test_image.png (2.18 KiB) Viewed 623 times
Or do you mean the text displayed when View > Information is selected?

I don't see a way of selecting center alignment for that...

Thank you for your reply. Your suggestion would be in fact an option to center explicitly
entered text. However, I was thinking off adding the IPTC caption to pictures in a slide
show via
Tools >> Slide Show >> More Options >> Show Information / Text Settings.
There seems to be no way to center the text.

Even your way of adding text to an image will not center multi line text contained
in an IPTC caption (added code "<IPTC:Caption>" as text).

But thank you anyway.
