XnView Software

I can't really remeber the topic, but please fix the speed issues with showing the jpeg files.
In my point of view, 75% of XnView users, use it mostly to view jpg, bmp, png and gifs, and most of them have a digital camera that gives them huge jpgs, like me .

I heard about some slowlyness compared to ACDSee, but never really cared about it.
But today, installed ACDSee and saw some pics of my digital camera and got completly astonished with the difference! ACDSee doesn't seem to need the "High Zoom Quality" like options to display a zoomed images without looking pixelized. And the difference with the navigation speed was pretty different too.

pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!! fix it :'(

Somebody writes that XnView is slow and then all of a sudden everyone thinks that XnView is really slow and can no longer be used. I've split off your topic from the "Must fixes" since this is no must fix.

Let's keep in mind that compared to 90% of the graphic viewers available XnView is pretty fast since it has caching for thumbnails and prefetching. Sure enough I also think that speed is very important and if there is an issue this should be addressed.

First, we should identify the speed problem and then we should see what the solution/action is. According to the post, the high quality display is very slow. In the area of the preview this has been addressed by the 2 pass display (first low quality, then high quality). Think when displaying the preview XnView has the same speed as other fast viewers, now.

One area which can cause problems is High quality zooming. High quality zooming for large zoom factors (>=800%) is unusable since it takes far too long, even on a fast machine. This is a known issue/bug, workaround is to deactivate the checkbox "High quality zoom for enlarge". I think this is a good workaround, since high quality zoom for large zoom factors is not really helpful and has little benefit.

Please holler if you see things differently.

As you can tell for the first line i wrote in my previous post, I was refering to viewing jpg files.
Like I've said, I saw people in this forum talking how ACDSee showed the jpg files way faster, maynly when zooming.
It might not be a bug but rather a "less good" feature.

My point was, since I use XnView a lot to handle Digital Photos I noticed a big difference to ACDSee. Images are 2816 x 2112 and I use the fit to window with the high zoom quality to get ride of those hugly pixels and so that the image quality can match ACDSee's. And while ACDSee loads them in 0.10s to 0.20s while XnView seems to take about a whole second. Another difference is that with ACDSee if I quick scroll the mousewheel it jumps 1 or 2 pics to go to the requested pic so that I can jump 3 pics, with one whole turn of the wheel and XnView seems to force the current pic to load before moving to the next one.

I'm not saying XnView got slower, I just wanted you to make you best to provide us with similar speeds
