Can't create movies using xnview

Hi all.
I searched the web and this forum for problems around creating movies by xnview but I did not find something similar to my problem here:
I use xnview 2.32. (the latest but it was the same with all versions since 1.78 or so before) under Win 7, 64bit under Intel HD3000 (but it doesn't work either using an ATI card on another PC). Whatever format I try (wmv, mpeg1, xvid), I can't create a movie from e.g., jpg-images or other typical image formats (gif, png). Here is what I do:
I use a German localization of xnview, so titles of buttons maybe slightly different from what I'm writing here...
I load all images in the opening panel, then I select "create video", I choose the format and then "do it". It starts working but after 1-2 seconds the screen freezes, gets grey/white, and xnview reports a crash without any notice about why. The only thing that works (but is not really practical in the sense of using such animations in e.g. powerpoint) is creating a Win executable using "create EXE/SCR". Such exe-file becomes however rather large (50 MB images make roughly a 50 MB executable while a wmv-movie using movie maker does it for 2.5 MB) and does not work under other operating systems.
Plugins for creating videos are all there. I have completely re-installed xnview but no change at all. I run xnview as unprivileged user.
Any ideas about the reason of this problem and how to solve it ? Would be highly welcomed ... thanks.
